Sunset Beach is a artificial beach located behind Mihama America Village in Chatan. It's a very large beach with lots of places to relax both on the sand and in the shade. There is also a posting of the day's best sunset viewing time, if you're going to try to catch a glimple of the beach's namesake.

The overall quality of the water was fairly low the day I was there. It didn't have that clean, untouched feel that more remote beaches often have. However, if you're looking for a fun beach in the Chatan area with lots of room. This one will be good.

This is essentially a kiddie pool with the jelly fish nets; the beach is nice but the water is not for swimming or any water activities other than letting the (small!) kids in the water safely. The environs are nice though. The location is really good, close to the main drag, the Kadena AF base, close to restaurants and there are at least 3 Starbucks there! I just do not understand why the loudspeaker recounts the beach rules several times an hour in Japanese and in English... Are there so many violators?
